This is what a humiliated enemy looks like.

Summary of a commentary by: Elisha Yered, Activist for the Settlement of Eretz Yisrael

Alertness prevented disaster when a resident of Ma’ale Tidhar in Gush Etzion spotted a suspicious figure on a hillside heading toward the community of Meitzad during the holiday. Security forces quickly arrived and arrested an Arab man from a nearby village.

Investigation revealed he was a terrorist who had previously infiltrated nearby communities four times yet was repeatedly released after being classified as “mentally ill.” On one earlier occasion he even broke into a home in the community; only a miracle prevented casualties.

The account ends with bitter irony: Should the man ever harm a Jew, the security establishment would presumably comfort the bereaved family by explaining that the perpetrator was merely someone “struggling with mental illness.”
