An off-duty IDF reconnaissance soldier was arrested Saturday after helping a Jewish shepherd attacked by Arab terrorists from al-Mughayyir, legal aid group Honenu said.
Shortly before sundown Friday near the Alon Road, dozens of terrorists threw stones and launched fireworks at the shepherd. The soldier, who lives on a nearby farm, arrived with other responders but waited for IDF troops and did not open fire. Soldiers later dispersed the attackers with stun and tear-gas grenades, allowing the shepherd to return safely.
Residents then claimed a child was wounded by gunfire. A village-affiliated channel published the soldier’s photo and accused him of the shooting.
Attorney Nati Rom of Honenu said his client “rushed with his weapon to assist a shepherd in distress, only to find himself under arrest like a common criminal.” Police detained him without taking his testimony. Rom demanded his immediate release and an investigation into the injury claim and those spreading the accusations.
