In the wake of recent incidents and the Shin Bet’s operational unit also beginning to act against settlers, journalist Ariel Kahana reported this morning in Israel Hayom that the activity of the agency’s Jewish Department has more than quadrupled on the direct orders of Shin Bet chief David Zini.
[The Jewish Department (also known as the “Jewish Division” is a
unit within Israel’s Shin Bet (Shabak/ISA), the country’s domestic
security and counterintelligence agency. It focuses on “Jewish
extremism” and internal threats from Israeli Jews, primarily
“far-right” settlers and nationalists. -Ed.]
In his column, Kahana notes that, for the first time, Shin Bet personnel are themselves carrying out arrests of settlers. He also highlights a striking statistic: Shin Bet operatives have already conducted 70 special operations in the settlements during the first half of 2026 — compared to only 15 in the first half of the previous year.
