Hilltop Pioneers Do Not Despair!

“I have permission to destroy everything — including the property,” boasted a Border Police officer last night during the brutal demolition in Givat Tal Talpiot, Binyamin.
A moment later, the bulldozer began tearing down the house with its steel blade. The baby’s crib, the parents’ beds, the children’s trampoline, chairs, blankets, and clothes — crushing and burying everything in the dirt.
“Cover it, cover it more, deep in the ground,” the Civil Administration officer ordered the Arab tractor driver.
They’ve clearly learned lessons from previous operations. Under cover of night and fog, police pushed the families back, hoping no one would be able to document the destruction by morning.
One of the families was blessed with a second daughter just days ago. After being discharged from the hospital, they now have no home to return to.
This morning I arrived at the site. On top of the hill, I met strong, determined families taking a short coffee break before beginning to rebuild. Their children stood on the mound of rubble that was once their home, trying to salvage their damaged trampoline from the ruins.
The path of redemption is difficult, but the day is not far off when a new settlement will rise here once again.
