Tal Yinon Dardik is a farmer and father of four from Chavat Tarfon in the Binyamin region of Samaria, is a Jewish settler who has faced prior legal scrutiny. In 2023, he received an administrative detention order (i.e., jail without trial) signed by then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
In July 2026, Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth issued a controversial administrative house arrest order, mandating six months at his deaf, widowed mother-in-law’s home. Dardik’s representatives from Honenu argued the order was impractical and unlawful as she communicates only via lip-reading, had not consented, and could not supervise him. After he refused to comply, Dardik was arrested shortly after his fourth child’s birth and indicted for breaching the order. He launched a hunger strike in protest.
A court later ordered his release to house arrest at his own home, citing no justification for continued detention, but police appealed and delayed implementation. Right-wing groups and journalists like Elchanan Groner denounced the move as “Stalinist” persecution and draconian use of administrative measures against settlers. Dardik remains in custody at Jerusalem’s Russian Compound amid protests. The case underscores deep tensions over administrative detention in Judea and Samaria.
