The pen at Givat Beit Anot is growing day by day with a fresh wave of summer lambings, kiddings, and births of other animals as well. 💪
Shepherding—especially leading sheep and goats to fresh grazing ground—remains one of the most practical, low-cost ways to assert and maintain presence and use-rights over large open areas. Regular grazing is visible, continuous activity: It shows the land is actively used rather than abandoned.
Jewish thought draws lasting values from this same occupation. A true shepherd must know every animal, protect the weak, seek the lost, and lead, rather than drive them from behind. That daily responsibility became a core metaphor for Jewish leadership and for G-d’s relationship with Israel. The prophets return again and again to shepherd imagery—both for divine care and for the human duty to tend what has been entrusted, even to us today.
May the consideration of these activities, and the qualities they bring, spread throughout the land of Israel!
