A Hebrew Report From Ja’abari Neighborhood: The Sukkah that Marks a Renewed Jewish Foothold in Hebron
Channel 14 reporter Eliya Gabbai shows a Palestinian-plated car parked on an Arab street, right beside a newly built kosher sukkah. Resident Aryeh Gottlieb says the sukkah sits at the closest northern point to the Cave of the Patriarchs that Jews can use—an angle he claims was closed to Jews for about 2,000 years.
Gottlieb says the Harchivi association and the local council are buying more properties from local Arab residents, restoring a Jewish presence at historic sites and developing the newly-named Ma’ale Doron neighborhood. He argues that Jewish families on those streets have brought back a sense of security, citing New York tourists who told him they felt safer here than in their own city.
The report frames the sukkah as both a holiday structure and a marker of renewed access, property work, and daily presence next to one of Judaism’s holiest sites.
